Default Question Of Ace

OK, I have purchased my Ace 250 (It's in the mail ). I would love to be able to afford an expensive model so that I can detect objects that only a back-ho can unearth. Unfortunately, I don't have much money to invest, so I went with the best model for the money. Thanks to all who persuaded me to buy this model! Now.... my question!

I want maximum depth out of this machine. I am well aware that even the best machines lie to us, so I will pretty much hunt with the "all metal" mode on all the time (Good idea?). If I hunt with the "all metal" mode, and maximum sensitivity, how deep can I expect this baby to go?

Is the depth perception in the coil, or in the box?

Is there a certain coil that I can use for maximum depth?

Thanks in advance - I cannot wait to get started!

Chris

Congrats on the ACE I am thinking of one for my son. I don't know much about the ACE I have an MXT and I know depth perception can be in both the coil and the box. A bigger coil can sometimes give greater depth but if it's a trash area you can't get good reading. The smaller coils are sometimes much like the big ones internally but just more compact. Sometimes things are done with hardware othertimes software. These things very by maker and model. I would try the stock coil and see what I find. Hit the local tot lot or school playgound. I found a ton of clad, rings and last night an $80.00 Eddie Bauer watch on the edge of a ball field. ICE

Well like Ice said, BTW congrats on the watch ICE!!, It's not always as simple as all that. Usually the bigger the coil the deeper....as deep as the coil width is a good rule of thumb. Damp soil will report deeper than dry, baron soil will report deeper than mineralized soil.
Lets say the soil is fairly clean of iron minerals and hot rocks, full sense in all metal will be the deepest option....add some minerals and the high sense will chatter like a ?????. Just turn her down until she almost stabilizes and you'll have maximum depth.

Congrats on the new Ace. I am sure you will be very happy with it. As to the depth of it. Just remember that deep does not always equal old or good, Beale.
