This may be more relic related, but what do some of these common finds show as generally on detectors with a display?:
bullets buttons buckles etc. I know what the few I have found show as, but the veterans might have some input based on volume. I would imagine these items could vary in metal content somewhat, but based on many finds, what do they usually show as and what are they usually made out of? I dug a button that bounced from pull-tab to quarter, CSA and USA bullets that ring as zinc penny and penny/dime and a strap buckle that showed a quarter, all in DISC mode. I do try to dig it all, but was curious. Thanks- |

......depends on what machine you are using, and what period the bullets, buttons and buckles are from.

Chuck,
I'm talking about CW stuff specifically. When you find CW bullets do most come up with the same tone distinction and or displayed item on the lcd (if the md you’re using has one)? Typical CW eagle buttons, were they generally a specific metal with or with out gilding? Do CW eagle buttons usually give the same tone for you most times? Just curious if it gets to the point that depending on what site you are at, do you get a tone and based on you experience, you know what you are going to be digging up? Thanks! |

.....but with my Vaquero or Tejon, the bullets (lead) hit hard, and repeatable, crisp, no doubt about digging. The Eagle Buttons (brass, with or without gilting) hit a little softer, but again, repeatable and no doubt about digging. With the Nautilus, they both hit "sweet as honey", and yes, no doubt about digging.
With my White's MXT, all targets are a little more splattered, but both the lead and the copper hit hard, and are repeatable. The iron or tin targets will "quack" at you and are definitely, notoiceably different. The meter is usually dead on in the relic mode, and will identify the bullets, buttons, and buckles with about 90% accuracy. However, my #1 discriminator is my brain, with input from my ears through the headphones. If the target is crisp, and repeatable, I wil use the LCD meter as a confirmation of what my brain is telling me, and yes I will dig. All four of those machines are excellent relic hunters, and I use them all, depending on soil content, average depth of targets, and amount of trash. Hope this helps my friend! |

Thanks Chuck!
Answers my question. I am hoping there will be enough signal consistency with my detector and that I find enough, so that I can get to the point of knowing what I am digging with experience. Happy Hunting! |
