Where people lived, there is treasure underground. Old "historic" sites are everywhere, just have to research where people once lived or visited. Picnic groves, family reunion sites, etc. don't always appear on maps, or have plaques designating them but they can hold lots of old coins and relics.

You think you've got it tough, try western Kansas some time.
Actually things aren't so bad. A little research will yield many places to hunt for CW era goodies. We had little to do with the CW but we were the major player in the Indian wars of 1867 which involved many of the survivors of the CW. Both Union and Confederate. After the CW many of the union soldiers were sent to the plains to fight the Indians. Confederate soldiers were also given the option to fight on the plains. You've just got to look at different sources for information. |

No CW activity in my area of Texas that I know of. The last battle was fought in Texas but what is a long ways from where I live. There were several Forts in Texas however, and a few close to me. Ofcourse they are off limits and I understand why. Would be nice if one could work private lands around them. A few years ago a landowner was walking his property and found a US cavalry sabre still sheathed. With some careful work he was able remove the sabre and it was in very good condition. Still had some "shine" on part of the blade. Boy - what a find. I can just imagine a soldier racing at full gallop, either being chased or chasing someone and somehow his sword came loose. Maybe he didn't notice or someone was gaining on him fast and did not have time to stop.
