Default So disappointing

We planned a camping trip for a couple of weeks and I was going to metal detect in an adjacent area because they don't allow MD within the site. I was very excited because it was in an area where several Spanish encampments were. I found out the day before we went camping that in the 50s, they used to test warheads and bombs, etc. Apparently, they have a handout that they give to people who live in the area that tells them to not dig in their yards and if they find anything looking suspicious to walk away and don't move it or breath on it or look at it and call 911 immediately. I was so bummed because I don't want to blow myself up, but really wanted to hunt that site.

Stupid cold war!!!

Default Go

Go camp somewhere that doesn't have burried ordinance. Can't MD when you're dead, and I wouldn't camp anywhere where you can't MD, but that's just me.

Hi Pris, I'm sorry to hear about your metal detecting plans going bad. But it is better to be safe than sorry. We sure don't want to hear about Pris in the news . Ok God Bless Pris and I hope you can find an alternate plan.

Hey Pris That is a bummer!!! I have had several trips like that...can be dissapointing!!! But there will be another day!!! Sometimes we get lucky and sometimes we have to enjoy all the other things in life...but sometimes I feel like I get the detecting DT's......lol!!!!!!! When I don't get to swing that coil!!! Went camping and was all set to do some digging and found out it was not allowed and it had some great history behind it and right across from our camp site there was a real old cemetary dating back to the early 1800's....That was tough leaving that detector in the trunk for a few days!!!! lol!!!!
Hope you find another area to hunt!!!

Don't think I would like living in an area like that either!!!

I agree better to be safe than sorry!!!

Pat

I absolutely don't want to be blown up and I am happy that I found out before I went diggin around. I had that itch all weekend, though.

I did see a guy walking around in bunny ears sort of nonchalantly swinging a weird looking MD while all these kids followed him around. Not sure if the ranger told him he couldn't MD, but I sure didn't have the heart to say anything to Mr. Peter Cottontail himself!!

Thanks to all of you on this forum who have expressed their desire for me to not be blown to smitherines! It is greatly appreciated.

Default sleeping in a mine field?

my wife wouldnt camp in a area like that. not because she would be scared of something accidently going off. she would be scared that my snoring would detonate everything with in the sound of my snores. (equals the state of SC.) its a shame all that stuff is still live. would make a very cool display and collection.

Tell me about it Bill, the guy we go campin' with snores up a STORM! I was worried about that, myself. You should see some of the photos they have of the shells. They're HUGE!! I sleep better at night, knowing that I didn't blow myself up, though :P
