I was just introduced to a new kind of hunting. See Geocaching - The Official Global GPS Cache Hunt Site
Haven't started yet, but it looks like a lot of fun. Give it a try.

i've been geocaching for 2 years. it's pretty fun. it's a real good excuse to get out of the appartment for the better part of the day.
i had an idea awhile back. for those of you who don't know what geocaching is people hide stuff all over the city. in parks, walking trails under rocks in holes in trees and the like. it usually is a small tupperware bin or ammo box. they post the gps coordinates on the geocaching web site for people to find. now on to my idea. i wanted to try and combine the two hobbies. my plan is to burry a small box and post the gps coordinates. people who happen to own a metal detector and a gps can use the gps to get close to the target then use the md to find exactly where the target is. my problem is i can't seem to produce a container that would resist punctures from shovels while repelling moisture. i need something that would make it easy to get stuff out of and put stuff in. what are your thoughts? |

I have been geocaching for awhile now. I have found quite a few and have placed a couple. Your idea of burying a box is cool, but..... if you read the rules for placing a cache burying something is out.
Here are the no no's. See #2. Sorry.

that really stinks. i may talk to the admin of geocaching.com and tell them my idea. if they see fit they could possibly create a section on the site for the md'ing/geocaching game. one thing that may put a damper on it is the avalibility of places where digging is allowed.
