Default My Ant Theory

I have come to the conclusion that ants, especially the little ones, build their nests around metal items and worship them as religious objects!
Just one girl's opinion!!

Ant and Grubs. I can't tell how many good items I have found with grubs. I usually try to puck them out if there are birds around and toss the birds a treat. Then I get my treasure and the birds get their treat.

Best of luck,

Eric

If I remember right it seems to me that someone had made a post about making some good finds that had grubs around them. I forget just what it was about but I do remember that it was very interesting.

Default Fire ants

Here in southern SC we have "Imported Red Fire Ants" thses tiny red ants have a very nasty sting. they bite with their jaws then ram a tiny lil stingers out of their hind ends and jab you with it. it feel like getting burned with a hot match tip. I cant count the mounds that i have hit with my coil and gotten a realy good tone/tones. some of their mounds can be a foot high and 3 foot in diameter, and that average. many smaller and some ALOT BIGGER. its just not worth digging into em to find the coins cause these critters are ferocious.

Those fire ants are one of the many reasons I want out of Louisiana. Born and raised around them, it becomes second nature working around them. Of course, when my wife and daughter moved here from Illinois, they had no clue how bad these ants could be. My daughter, once, ran into the house wearing only her underwear... she apparently fell into one of the mounds then remembered my statement once to shed whatever they are on. Well, she did so - and luckily she did, because she wound up with only 26 stings after we threw her into a tub of water to get them out of her hair! I hate 'em - but I have dug in some to only find clad coinage!
