Default Over populated Md'ing

I am curious as to why it seems that there has been a spike in interest in MD’ing or treasure hunting. At least in my neck of the woods it appears that everyone in the country is buying up metal detectors. I have only a few friends, three to be exact that I tell about my hunts but lately I’ve have folks that don’t even know me come up to me and ask “Where can I get a good metal detector?” ”So and so told me you knew about some good deals.” Then I go through the whole spill: What’s your price, hunting for, sites your looking at hunting, so on so on. I even had one guy said he was into civil war reenactment and wanted to hunt civil war sites. I told him that most of them are illegal to hunt. Then I get into an area where there are just too many rules for me to explain and I tell them that they’re going to have to research the hobby. Is anyone else experiencing “metal detecting fever” in their area?

Default Thankfully not yet

I guess I haven't seen any of the overcrowding around here, and I am only one state up from you. MO has some fairly restrictive rules on state parks, don't they?

Hey, I think there is still plenty of treasure out there for all of us. What I have come across more often is folks who have a MD, and never or seldom used it!!!

I don't get out much but I don't see a lot of folks MDing around this area but I'll pay more attention now to see if I notice more. I did see an ad on a local Freecycle board someone requesting a MD if someone had one to give away. I sort of snorted when I read that.

I agree with MetalHead. I believe there is alot of people who purchase a detector and never really end up using more than once or twice. They don't take it seriously and alot of people don't take the time to learn their machine so they become discouraged quickly. They spend all of their time digging junk. The hobby takes practice and time to do research of your area. I agree that there is still alot out there to find.
