Default Needs Info

I want good MD, under $500 waterproof, easy. I am a beginner, and have never used one before. It is something my finance and I have wanted to do for years. Do I really need a high priced wazzoo model to get good results? I want something good that will work, most likely I will buy two, one for me one for her. I have been collecting rocks and minerals all my life, and would like something that would find meteorites. She is looking for jewelry coins, relics, bottles etc. Is there one detector that does it all? I have been looking on ebay, and I am very reluctant to spend that kind of money without others opinions. Any help would be awesome.

that is kinda what i was afraid of doing. I do not want anybody to try and 'sell' me anything, I just want some non-bias opinions to point me in the right direction.

I live in So Cali and am new to MD and I went with the Prizm V from whites White's Electronics Metal Detectors
I've also heard people say the Ace 250 by Garrett is a good MD. You might want to check this site it's a Metal Detector review site Metal Detector News, Reviews and Rating

Hope that helps and good luck!

DITTO with what Greenwenvy said and you could go to the Treasure Net website, click on forums then scroll down to reviews by owners. Alot on the Ace 250. Don't count The Sponsors out tho. I'm sure if you contact them and give them your price range & what you want to hunt Then ask them whats in that range & what Feedback they have gotten from their customers Positive & Neg. Plus they can give you technical info wich may help in your decision. Remember.... At the moment your looking for Info & unbiased Opinions & are not committed to buying from anyone. I'm sure they would be as Happy to give you that Info just as much as if you were ready to purchase one. Good Luck & HH

Default hello there

i own the whites prizm 3. the coil is waterproof and i have used mine in the parks in my yard and on the beach. most coils are waterproof but CONTROL BOXXES ARE NOT.... unless you spend the money for a machine that is totaly waterproof. i real suggest you talk to our sponsors.... all of them are very knowlegeable (i guessed at the spelling on that one) about the machines they sell and wont steer you wrong. with info from you and the limit you want to spend they can set you up with the best equipment for you. if i had known about them b4 i bought my machine i would have purchased through them. and you can be sure my next one (DFX) wil come through one our sponsors. good luck and happy hunting... and dont forget to post those finds when ya dig em

Default BEGINNER's DETECTOR........

Since you have no experience at all with detectors, I would try a very basic detector like the Garrett Ace 150/250 or one of the Whites Prizm's. At this stage any of the top of the line detectors with all their bells and whistles will seem too overwhelming to a Newbie!!! Also don't expect to find gold rings, gold coins every day................some days silver (or clad) will have to do!!!!!!!!!!!....................Joe
