Red face Help me find a coin!!!!!!

I got my ace 250 about 2 days before Easter and I have only missed 1 day (my husband's bday) since I got it, I even detected in the sleet on Easter. I have a huge family property to hunt including a pre 1900's house site and I have yet to find 1 coin. I have found more iron than I know what to do with (2 bags worth). I am using the standard settings with the all metal I am doing it wrong? Surely there is coins out there after more than a hundred years of occupation.

Default A little help

Julie, First...when you turn your ace on put it in the coin mode.
Second...Tune your sensetivity down to about 4 bars DO NOT keep it wide open.
Third...Use your discrimination and null out Everything below a penny and GET TO HUNTING !

Hi Julie - first let me say that if there have not been a lot of people on your property then chances are you may not find too many coins. You have to detect where the people would of walked or hung out. Try the route to the out house. What about under the clothes line where the clothes might of hung as they were drying. What about the path leading to the front of the house and don't forget the path to the back of the house. In the olden days people used to use the back of the house more than the front. How about the path to the barn? Where did your family have picnics or family BBQs or gatherings? What about where the cars are parked along the edge of the driveway. What about near the mailbox. All possible places.

Research is key. Look for old fair grounds or picnic areas. Play grounds or beaches. Old swimming holes. Free2detect says try places where they are tearing up the sidewalks and replacing them. Use your imagination. But you have to go where there were people or your chances are pretty slim.

Default Welcome Julieburger !

What Pappy said ! Ya pretty much need to set that discrimination to reject iron, otherwise you will be diggin alot ! Most places such as an old farmhouse site will be covered in iron objects. At an average old homesite i will get a signal about every 2 inches in all metal. With one click of my dis.level i can expect to dig some iron but things like brass, lead, copper, silver and gold give a good clear signal.Best of luck to ya !

Default Finding Coins

Hi Julie! If you just want some clad coins to wet your whistle, go to any school yard, baseball field, football field, local city or county parks, old home sites, beach and swimming sites! Put that detector into the COINS MODE and ignore the all-metal mode at least for now. Now if you ever get interested in Relic Hunting/Civil War relics...............we can discuss the proper use of the ALL-METAL MODE!...........hope this helps.......Joe

Thank you to everyone I found 2 pennies after I posted and a silver plated spoon! There was a lot of people all around this house and sitting out in the yard all the time so I knew they had to be there. I am very intersted in civil war relics there is actually a union camp on part of our backlands and I desperately need help with the all metal mode because I am going hunting out there on Friday and Saturday.

Julie...

I have a Whites PrismV and as far as coins go, when it hits on say a dime or quarter it gives a high pitched sound...I also bought an Ace250 from Chuck and tested it out last Saturday and found some clad and noticed when it hit on a penny, dime, quarter, it gave off a bell tone, or "Pinging" sound...I noticed nickels gave more of a flat sound...And each time I heard that ping, out popped a coin...Hope this helps you out some... HH

Default hello julie

First i wanna welcome you to TQ. Second good job on digging all the iron. i know its not treasure but guess what. its iron you wont have to dig later. Its out of your way and if any coins ever move closer to the surface in those places because of frost or root growth or critters, you will more easily find them. i have dug lots of junk but it makes the silver and gold so mucch prettier when you see it in the bottom of the whole. good luck and happy hunting.
