Boy, we had a super time. You couldn't beat the tender delicious bar-b-que briskets the landowner made for us all. We had one great free night hunt after the briskets and gave away two detectors and many prizes for that one. Friday night the storm of storms hit and blew down our big tent, but as always, the great group of th'ers all pitched in and raised the tent again and we continued on with more free open hunts. Some 200 folks enjoyed the open free Sat. morning hunt, gave away 10 metal detectors and 82 other donated prizes in this one. We introduced the Speed-O-Hunt and folks lined up for that one as well. Then came the free Brown Bag hunt with two detectors several 1/10 oz gold coins and many silver rounds in this fun hunt, everyone left smiling after that one. The Llano Chapter of the GPAA was there teaching folks how to prospect and refine their gold finds while showing off their gold they had found in the river. Saturday night many of us enjoyed the beautiful moon lite sky reflecting off the Llano River as we gathered around a big campfire to get to know one another, share treasure stories and more. Sunday morning started off with a short but informative Sunday Morning Service by Bob Sullivan, he did a super job. Then we had the Kids Hunt and two of the youngest kids won their first metal detectors thanks to Rex Smith of the Treasure Boards for donating them. The kids had big grines and handsful of coins to take home. For the free Ladies Hunt, as most hunts, many of the ladies don't detect but just go on these outings with their husbands. Well this Ladies Hunt was different, they didn't need a detector or digger, just a yard stick. For the ladies treasures were many gemstone, jade and pearl necklaces hanging from the campground trees for them to find and retrieve with their yard sticks. Boy was that something to watch, not to mention Mary Penson of Garrett Metal Detectors letting out a yell everytime she found another necklace. Those ladies did have a blast of a good time with this hunt. Then to end the weekend we had the only Pay Hunt where we gave away 9 metal detectors, several 1/10 oz gold coins and several stacks of silver rounds. Only one Clue Hunt was found, the GPS clue hunt was found by Bob Sullivan and Ed Brown and it was a buried purse of Barber Coins and a token for 2 0z silver round. Bob and Ed said it was the most realistic treasure hunt they had ever been on for an organized hunt and was the highlight of their weekend. The Big Fish contest we won by two brothers and the Indian arrowheads were found all over, some of the most beautiful points and scrapers you have ever seen. The landowner even allowed the group to pull date nails from his hugh old pile of railroad crossties.
With the exception of a little bad weather Friday night, you could not ask for a more beautiful, exciting, and great scenic weekend with some of the best folks in our hobby. Even got to enjoy several celebrities in our hobby when they came to visit us all as well as introduce several new folks to our hobby and helping them get started in the right direction with good ethics. You missed a great time I assure you. Maybe next year you can make it. Keith Wills Thanks to all of you who donated to this event, you know who you are. Your what made this weekend possible.
