Default Mica

Anyone familiar with mica stone? I found a golf ball sized piece in my hole and nothing else. It didn't set the detector off but I found no other metal in the hole and the sound disappeared. Could this stone have set it off somehow???

Talking Your mica

sorry I am late to this and do not comment often...from your description I envision your mica ball actually being a garnet with mica stuck to it...this is likely as I have found one similar in Cleveland County NC. There is a good chance if you are nearby there that this is the case...whether or not it would set off your detector...possible, at a minimum I would think it to give a "hot rock" response...all the way to occassionaly penny quarter reading on occasional sweeps that one sometimes gets with old 16 penny nails in the ground. If it is dark looking, possibly rusty orange looking in spots with the mica on it I would think this is the case, still no good value but fun find.

I would love to find garnet but no...I'm in Penna. I have heard of garnet being found near here too but my stone is black/grey colored all through.

although I appreciate your effort, for clarity I was trying to get a look at cntydncr find...fyi I was the Chief Geologist for a mine that our number one product was mica (muscovite).

On a side note, those are some nice specimens you have.

Well I tried to add the picture but I had to keep reducing the size of the picture file and could not get a clear one. Maybe I'll try tomorrow when i am not so tired!
