Default Anybody Suffer From Arthritis?

Because of metal detecting? My left tall and index finger have been hurting for a while and I think it's because of the scoop when I shake the sand. I think I am going to go to the doctor and have my hand seen because it's been like 3 weeks and my hand still hurts. Does anyone else suffer from this?

The best thing I ever did for my carpal tunnel was to lift light weights 5 to 7 pounds daily. I have not suffered since and I am a hair stylist and carpal tunnel is very common to us. Hope this helps.

Default Arthritis

Hello Kent here. I suffer from arthritis of the hands and back. I don't usually comment on my treatment because I don't believe it myself. Crippling arthritis runs in my family. The last time I got x rays of my back the dr. asked what I took for pain. I take nothing. Most of the time its just a small annoyance. I've been wearing a magnetic bracelet for about 3 years now. Don't ask me what it does but it helps me move better with less pain. About 4 months ago the pain and movement started coming back to the point that I was going to go to the Dr.. I examined my bracelet and found one of the magnets had fallen out. I bought another from rite aid for $20 and back to my old self. LOL I don't expect anyone to believe this but it works for me. Later Kent

My wife and I spent years working in the nursery business, each managing nursery departments for competitive operations. You spend a lot of time unloading truck loads of plants and over time it does it's damage.
We both retired a few years ago because we both started getting pains, mine in my back, wrists and fingers, she just in her fingers. She made herself a set of copper rings, wears them and the swelling and pain was greatly diminished. She was able to go back to doing jewelry which she loved.
A silversmith with swollen knuckles is NOT a good thing Martha..
I wear a copper bracelet and use magnets as well. Wrist wrap with magnets and a back support with magnets when I'm doing blacksmithing or anything else that is gonna hurt later.
Don't know why, maybe the cure is just between my ears, but it helps out greatly so I don't question it.

Default How About 3 Surgeries On Both Knees All Due To Arthritis!!!

That is what I have!! Due to the constant pain I take a lot of pain killers. Also due to this the up and down movement of locating and retrieving targets can be very painful!! To keep this movement to a minium I use a long handled sand scoop and a long handled digging tool like a spade but with a lot narrower of a blade!! Hunting in the ocean also seems to help the Arthritis and the pain seems to subside at least until my hunting is over for the day!! But if one is in a lot of Pain it is not UNMANLY to take medicine for it! I know that some people have a view that medicine is not good or only use it very sparringly! I guess that working in a Hospital that I have a different viewpoint. If one is truly in pain and the medicine is available use it, it makes no sense to suffer needlessly! Just my 2 cents.................Joe

I feel for you. I've had back problems for over 10 years. Bad arthritis showed up in tests I had done over 10 years ago. I've come to realize you have to find a balance to keep everything feeling acceptable. You can't become a couch potato until it heals. I've done that when my back has went out and it doesn't help. The times I've done the best have been when I find a nice medium of exercise. I have problems doing repeatative stuff with my hands. I suspect I have the beginnings of carpal tunnel. But, it's not at an unacceptable level right now. I wouldn't discount any kind of magnet or copper bracelets. There's alot about the body we don't understand. Good luck!

-Bill
