Well, the detector that I want does not exist! I would hire a team with the smarts of George Payne. It would be a non-motion ground canceling discriminator with target I.D. It could identify a dime to at least 15 inches. The screen background could be changed from Coins to a Relic ID background by a push-button or switch! More than one coil would be available like for Cache Hunting! The batteries would be easy to obtain and to replace!! It would also have an optional Auto mode and have a Manual Ground Balance control...................Of course none of this is currently available so I will happily settle for my Pro or Pro-2!!!!...Joe

Tesoro Tejon would be my pick. It is well built and has the new High Output technology that pushes the signal deeper in the ground than many other machines, Also it gives you a dual discrimination button at the flick of a switch under the unit to either pinpoint in one position and move it in the other direction to further check out a target as to whether it is possibly silver or not. In our club with the exception of a few old timers who use a Fisher 1266 or a 1270 more and more members are going to the Tesoro. Just my few cents!

I Know that you said if money was no object,.................but in this real world it normally is a big factor in one's purchase! I have a problem with spending $600.00 to $1200.00 or more on a detector. But this is my personal bias for myself. Also if one wants to spend this type of money and can afford to do so ..................go for it! Now don't get me wrong................at one time in my life years ago I would spend this type of money. I have owned brand new (for the time) Fisher CZ 5, Teknetics 8500 and the Teknetics Mark I and many others! I just don't feel that way any more. Maybe it is because of the advent of Ebay! Since I started cruising ebay I have never spend more than $300.00 on a single detector! Right now I am enjoying using the AH.......Pro and Pro-2. And for deeper targets I pull out my Whites's 4900 with the 12 inch searchhead!! I used to know guys that would use a detector that makes them nervous and was uncomfortable with it, but would not change since it was the popular detector of the Detector Club Pack!! I never adhered to that, one needs to find the detector that makes a fit for them and don't worry about any one else.........................Joe

Hey Butch,
I don't really have any dealers near me, either. You could try to locate a MD club near you and if there isn't one, maybe there are detectorists close to you. I bought my machine from an authorized dealer online and had never used one. I went off of reviews and just studied what my options were. I did a bunch of research before I bought my machine (Ace250). If you really don't want to buy something without checking it out in person, perhaps you can take a drive into a large city for the express purpose of test driving a detector. |

I have access to detectors and the question was meant to be just a general one 'cause there are many that have that very situation. Having the web is a great big plus for researching these things and the sponsors are always ready to help. I see Kellyco has come on board now. How long have they been here?
