Default Just curious,

If you were going to buy a detector today for coin shooting ,relics, and all around detecting and considered yourself an experienced detectorist and price was not a consideration, which one would you buy?

That's a good question. I would pick one with good VDI capabilities. I'm using a Garretts 2500 right now with display discrim, about a$1000.00 machine, and I don't really like it. It's deep hunting and all, I would prefer the VDI machines though. There are several brands out there. If it were me, and it will be soon, I would find a dealer of several types and try them all out before I buy. Or use someone elses for a trip. I think every person has there own special machine and settings that suit them. Good luck!

I have a minelab x70 and for the money I think it is a great machine not too cheap but not ridiculous. Good luck and let the sponsors guide you.

Default I heard good things about the X-Terra 70

I use Garretts myself, an Ace 250 (Pro) an Ace 300 and a GTA 350. I also have two vintage detectors that I use, a D-Tex and an old Bounty Hunter II.

I have heard and read several good things about the X-Terra 70 and am currently considering one for myself. I was finally able to get back working after my chain incident so it will be a few paychecks before I purchase one.

It may take me a little while to get the hang of all the functions this detector has but I need a multi use detector. My old D-Tex has multi function controls and does pretty good but I am sure it lags behind compared to modern day standards. This feedback helps reinforce my decision as well.. Thanks for posting it Chuck.

I don't know about all the other brands. I had to make a decission like the one you pose based on product literature, friends, and whatever else I could find. I ended up getting the Minelab Explorer II (now replaced by the Explorer SE). I love it! Having hunted now with a friend a few times, have been able to outdo his Fisher about 7 to 1 in coin count. I really like the ability to establish very custom discrimination patterns for those junky sites, and to really "know" what you're digging before you dig. I think the multiple frequencies gives you a real edge as well in most situations. For me, it was a good choice, and I've nearly paid for it in finds in just over a year!

I am too looking to upgrade at the moment and I am leaning heavily toward the xterra-70, I had always past over this machine until Chuck told me to take a good look at it before making a decision.

I use the Xterra 50, bought it before the X70 was launched.
The 50 is a great machine, light weight, deep, sensitive on very small items.
With Minelab you can't go wrong.
