Unhappy I need some encouragement/help

Ok here's my situation. I have been going to various places to hunt, such as an old abdoned home;along the Wabash River in a spot where a child ( a year before ) found an old coin on top of ground ;back
to a 1868 church that I found my first barber; and a few parks here and there.......my problem is that I have found nothing...absolutely nothing...very little trash and just a handful of clad at the parks. I'm concerned that my ace250 is not working right. I have planted in my garden various coins and trash at various depths to test the Ace, funny thing is that my husband just went out and tilled the D%$* thing up, he caught hell for that one At least I won't know where the coins are now. Later I'll be out there to see how the ace performs. I do have a question for all ACE 250 users........its been very dry here, does that effect the ACE?? Last year, we had alot more rain, so I'm just wondering if that could be my problem. And yeah I know, if theres nothing in the ground then I won't find anything. I'm just frustrated, I went from finding clad, old coins and a few relics....to nothing. HELP. When I'm done testing my ace I'll post my results. Thanks for letting me vent.

Indy, do you think maybe your coil may be the problem? Does your husband's Ace 250 work well? Try using his coil on yours and see if it performs better. Good luck!

The ground conditions seemed to have a big effect on my Ace 250. The mineralization also drove mine crazy.

Hey Indy, I tell you what you should do. Water an area of your yard for a couple of days in a row, then go out in the morning of the third day and see if you are able to pick anything up on your MD. Mine doesn't like dry soil very much.

I hunt in a park that is watered every other day in the mornings. There are patches that don't get much, if any water. When I hunt those areas, I don't get good readings. I had a penny telling me it was a pull tab, today. Just a tad irratic. On the watered turf, though, it does just fine.

Of course, it could be your coil, huh? I would try other conditions if you can find a park that waters it's grass.

Good luck! I sure hope it works out. Please keep us posted.

Default hey Indy

Not sure about the weather conditions But I had a similar problem and I took the cable off and cleaned the connecters with an alcohol pad. Then I did a coin test on the picnic table and it worked. Hope thing improve for you. Good luck

Default Keep your chip up

Indy - I also find that the 250 works better in wetter soil. Pris and Stephan's advice is good - I'd give 'em both a shot. Also, I'm not sure that there's anything to it, but attitude seems to work. The other night I was out, was having a tough time, thought I wouldn't find anything and didn't. 2 nights later, same area, but I had a feeling - and sure enough, 12 cents, all clad, but something nevertheless. Keeping the main discriminator (your head) positive seems to work for me.

HH!

Sorry to hear your havin a run of bad luck Indy,Dry soil definatly will affect your ability to detect ! It has been very dry here also and i have noticed a big difference in my machines performance.I pretty much give up till we get some soaking rain. It's like trying to dig in concrete around here !

Well I did my test with my ACE and it seems to be working fine, tried my husbands also and they were working the same way. After my garden test, I detected around our backyard and where our leech field runs, more moisture is in soil and I found a penny and part of an older mathcbox firetruck. So I'm guessing that the dry soil is effecting how the ace works.
Joe PA : you have a point there, I'll try to have a more postive attitude.....I've been thinking negitive the last few times I've been out.
gordiesgirl: good idea about cleaning the connectors, but is it ok to use an alcohol pad on it?
Here's another question, how does the ace do with dry sand?
Thanks everyone.

I may have to give that a shot, clean the connector, lately I have really begun to question the depth I am getting out of my Ace250 .............

Hi Indy...

As far as how the Ace250 works in dry sand, I had a few busy days over this past weekend and on Sunday around 5 o'clock I decided to hit this fairground I've been going to...Its been very dry around here and the temperatures have been in the high 80's/low 90's this past week with NO rain...Anyway, I was out there for about an hour and a half and mustered up $1.02 in clad...One pocket drop of 2 dimes and 2 pennies...The soil under the grass was more like beach sand it was so dry with plenty of good size rocks, which was a pain digging, but the ole Ace came through...Like CCHUGHS, I purchaced a 4.5" Sniper Coil from Chuck, and haven't taken it off yet...It is definately an awesome coin magnet...Pinpoints right on the money, everytime...Hope this helps you out...HH..
