I am looking to buy a pair of headphones for the Tejon that i just bought and was wondering what I should be looking for when I get them. I am normally relic hunting and many of our club members have Gray Ghost headphones and they seem to like them alot. I also hear that several have Killer Bee headphones and they can run at about the same price. What is essential in a good pair of headphones and what do most people have on this board? TIA

It depends on how much that you want to spend! Some people like the Extra Costs of the Gray Ghost and some prefer the basic and more cheaper headphones available form your local detector dealer! Don't buy headphones from Radio Shack as the wires are very thin and cannot take the abuse of Treasue Hunting!..........Joe

Was in the same place last week. Check the Whites section I think under M6 and there is much discussion about head phones. I would also contact Chuck at the Treasurehut. He will give you the pros and cons of most everything out there. He sells several of the best. Killer B, Ratphones etc. He also hunts with and sells the Tesoro, minelab and several others so he knows his stuff.
He is great to deal with and will give you tons of help even if you just want to ask him questions. Before you buy, do contact him you won't be sorry. |

Gee I hate to sound cynical but I have to tell you that headphones are just headphones. Go to "Finds" and look at the guy holding an 81mm mortar round found while metal detecting..that would be me 25 years ago. Now look at the headsets..simple headsets that I still use today and I will match my detecting ability with anyones while using those headphones on relics or coins. Bottom Line: Just get something cheap and comfortable and not what seems to be fashionable..they are pretty much all the same "In my opinion"

I have some headphones and thet do pretty well but I just bought some earbuds called Skull Candy. They have 2 volume choices, and they have different ear piece sizes and they fit so tight I don't hear any outside noises. I personally like this choice but I respect whatever everybody likes but it goes to show we like all different types of goodies. Happy Hunting.

Good phones are a must with a threshold based detector where hearing the ground along with a faint threshold hum is a must for hearing deeper targets on the edge of your detectors depth capabilitys. This is where good headphones excel and make a diffrence, even silent search detectors benifit from good headphones for the same reason. The bottom line is, better target responce to the ears through good phones, means more targets detected, which equals more goodys in the treasure appron...... Take Care, Bill G
