Default Anyone from MICHIGAN!!!

I'm driving up to Grand Rapids in about 3 weeks to see my son! Never been this far North (except as a baby) that I can recall! So I'm excited! Packing at least one detector but space will be limited so I will have to agonized over which one or two that I can bring! May go beach hunting, looks like Lake Michigan is not too far away! Any specific beaches would be appreciated or any other place(s) in this vicinity would be appreciated! Back to the detectors, I'll probably take my Whites's 4900D Pro Plus with all the loops and maybe the Pro-2? Of course, my detector selection may change! Last year, I went to Padre Island and had the same problem over space so I only brought my land detectors! One day the shallow surf looked real good and clear visibility was to about 5 feet, so I really regretted over leaving my Seahunter at home! Does any one know the surf conditions on this lake? I was told that these Great Lakes are so huge that they act like the Ocean, not really sure of that but that is what I've been told! Thanks Joe

Sorry, not from MI but I do go there now and then. Only been to Grand Rapids once, but to visit someone for a few hours and I never explored around for MD sites. Not sure how many MD'ers you see down your way but in MI there seems to be quite a few. I sure never had much luck hitting sites as the locals seem to have them covered LOL. Then again I see there isn't one, but two MD clubs located in bordering towns (Plainwell (where I visit) and Otsego). What chance does a "foreigner" have

PS - I *think* lake MI is within 30 miles of Grand Rapids. I would use Mapquest or Google Maps and see what cities due west of Grand Rapids border the lake and then google them for beaches.

Default Michigan Beaches

OZ IL, it is hard for me to believe that the locals have found all the treasures on your beaches. I have hunted many beaches in Texas, (including Padre Island) and the beautiful beaches of Florida! And usually the situation is the same, the high conductive coin count may be down but if you can find the pulltabs and nickels then you can find the rings! And finding rings is what it is all about! Maybe the locals are trying to discourage you which is normal since a lot of hunters can become very territorial!.....................above all else have fun..............finding treasures is just the gravy................enjoy the wind, water and beautiful scenery...............and be FRIENDLY.............it can be contagious!!!!!!!!!!!.............Joe

I agree with Pris. Go hunt. You never know what Lake Michigan will cough up over the winter.

Hi, im from Michigan and still currently reside here.. The Great lakes are oceans in their own right. The 2 best things are, they are fresh water and there isnt anything in the water that will eat you.. I have done a bit of detecting on the beaches and you can find lots of goodies but as always make sure you read the park rules where they apply on the shoreline and always get permission on private property. Good luck!
