You would have. It takes a brainstormin' session with others, sometimes, to bring out what EVERYone would have eventually thought of. I hope it works for you, if you end up using one.

Thanks again Pris, I am going to wait until this thread runs out as I think there may be more things for me to consider. Hey..maybe a real sturdy digger that can have hole drilled in it, dig and sift at the same time.
Carl PS: Brainstorming is fun. Maybe we will all come up with a new marketable invention that Chuck can sell for us

Maybe! That would be pretty cool, I think. TQ could come up with a whole line of member designed products. Thanks for the thread, Carl.

Those are some good suggestions. Here is another one, that I do.
I carry a pencil magnet in my pouch. It will find anything that is metallic.

I just got a scoop (along with my pinpointer) that has a magnet attached to it. You could attach a magnet to whatever sifter you end up using.

Pris and Bob. maybe I am missing something regarding the pencil magnet. Coins are not magnetic? I am sure the magnet is for something else so please enlighten me

I used to have a paper making kit and it came with this little wooden frame that had a fine mesh in it I think about that often and wonder if that would be helpful. Maybe the frame could be made of something more flexible than wood. The screen could also be interchangeable for different types of soil i.e. sand. The design I speak of is similar to a sifter used for gold & gem hunting.

You are correct it won't pick up a coin
BUT
it will help to eliminate any tiny article that may be hiding in the dirt or sand.

If it doesn't pick up anything you can be pretty sure there is a coin or something non metallic like a brass token in there somewhere.
