Thumbs down Sidewalk program

City sidewalk replacement program in full swing so I tried 6 houses last night. $0.00 Not one solitary coin *ugh* Earlier in the year I tried a slew of torn up sidewalks in Chicago. One wheatie, some Zlincolns (of all things) and a 1964 nickel. 15 houses, less than 15 cents found. The search continues *sigh*

Just how much material are they taking out? Sounds like you'd do better looking for the dirt piles they remove. Don't give up, there's got to be something out there.

Actually the sidewalks around here are all around 40+ years so they have settled in fine. They just remove the cement and very little of the dirt. In fact you can still see the original cinder that were the 'sidewalks' way back when. They completed the entire village in a few days so like the Cub fans say "Wait till next year".

Default Sidewalk Hunting

OZ IL, , not sure of what kind of detector that you are using? Lower the discrimination so that it only eliminates the iron nails and then dig everything that beeps. This means digging all the tin foil, large iron, screw-caps and all of the pulltab-type targets! The good part is that if these sidewalks are from the 1940's the amount of junk should be at a minimum! These sidewalks should hold old coins, keys, tokens and other miscellaneous items! GOOD LUCK.................Joe

My detector didn't do much beeping at all - Ace 250 and I did notch out the iron, otherwise it would have beeped its pretty little head off LOL. I found an old can with a huge root growing through it. Didn't have an axe to chop the root so the can is now under a new coat of cement
