So how much does it cost to redo a machine like that??? And have you tested it out in the field????? That is so cool that you rebuilt it yourself.

Default a lil bit of electronics basics

most manufacturers use components in the 5 to 10 percent tolerance range. for example resistors that are rated at 1000 can be either a 900 or 1100 and still be in tolerance at 10%. a 1%percent carbon film is much closer to its rated value. a 1000ohm resistor can be either 1010 or 990 to be in tolerance. Capacitors are another component. this machine had a bunch rated at 20% standard. i replaced them with 2% NPO... which means they are temperature stable... they will remain within 2% of their value within a 100 degree temp change. the only thing i didnt replace are the control knobs (pots, switches, and rheostats) only because i couldnt find any to fit. i know this is boring the few who take the time to read it. but for the electronics nerd like me out their they can apreciate the story. lets just say this machine is hot. it air tested a 1921 silver dollar at 16 inches. the deepest coin i have found is a dime at 9" (measured with ruler not guessed) and a 16 penny nail at 11". so yeah its runnin hot. on prob i have though is it is so hot it goes beserk if you try to run it wide open on the tuning and GEB disc. im still tinkerin trying to get the preamp better stabilized. need more tools for tht. but all in all i am very happy with her. so is the wife cause now she uses the prizm 3

happy huntin yall

Great job, Bill!!! I remember you talkin' about having this, while your wife was using the Prism. Is this one that you already had or did you pick it up used? Either way, that's quite impressive. What is it you do for a livin'? Maybe you could quit your day job and do this full time.
