Default Post your favorite books

In relation to my other post, I would like to see what books everyone has just laying around. Favorties. Most used. etc.
Anything metal detecting related. Lost treasure, pirates, MD books, even history related to what you like to detect.

I enjoy the books on History esp. as related to detecting as much as I do detecting itself.

It's nice to share and see what is out there.

1. To start. My first and what is next to my desk all the time is United States Treasure Atlas by Thomas Terry.
2. A locally produced book by a member of the Lafitte Society in Galveston. Profiles in Pillage-Galveston Pirateers 1816-1822 by Bill Doree.
I like reading on Jean Lafitte.
3. Also one of my earlier books Texas Tales of Lost Mines and Buried Treasures by Carlos Savoy. It is well worn with bent pages having been read several times and I keep it in my car mostly. Alot of nice short stories of lost treasure.
4. Lost Gold and Silver Mines of the Southwest by Eugene L. Conrotto. Another book of short stories of lost treasure. There are alot of books like this that make great reading and are informative.
5. Another book like the 2 above is Dig Here-Lost Mines and Buried Treasure of the Southwest by Thomas Penfield.
6. A big old fat book of 872 pages of ghost towns with really great looking old pictures of some of the towns themselves and the people. copyright 1970. Only $10 at a used book store. Seems like a decent deal to me. Ghost Towns of the West by Lambert Florin.
7. Treasures of Galveston Bay by Carroll Lewis.
I'm a sucker for the books on Laffitte and Galveston.

8. Spanish Monuments and Trailmarkers to Treasure in the United States Charles A Kenworthy
9. Death Traps to Treasure Charles A Kenworthy
10. Interpretations of Treasure Signs and Symbols Fred J. Stewart
10-4-07
11. The Ancient World An Historical Perspective Henry C. Boren 2nd edition 407 pages
A fantastic history book. Starts with 2 chapters on early man and Mesopotamia. Then the Egyptians Greeks and other Empires up to Late Rome. The last chapter being modern civilization. One of my favorites. For me it was one of those I read every night until I finished it and it didn't take long.

I will be listing many more and I hope to see alot other members post there books also.

Only into metal detecting for the last 3 months but have gotten these and like them. I'm researching Acadian life for my area.
1. Search by James r. Warnke
2. The founding of New Acadia 1765-1803
3. Acadian To Cajun 1803-1877 both by Carl A. Brasseaux

Default 3 more books added

Added 3 more books to the list.
Thought it would be easier to list on the same first part of this post rather than spreading it throughout.

It's at the top.

I do not have any books on metal detecting but I have a great civil war resource entitled: "The Official Atlas of the Civil War." Has tons of maps of just about every engagement. You can pick one up from Barnes and Noble for about $20.00.

Hi Doug, I have a book titled Spanish Expeditions into Texas 1689-1768. I wanted to see if there was any serious activity in the West Texas area by the Spanish. It appears that by this book there was not. I have a couple of aquaintances that say there is much hidden gold caches in my area. Any way the book is by William C. Foster. It has a total of 339 pages. It is very interesting and I would recommend it. Ok Doug I have a few others and will list over time. God Bless ya Doug and good reading to you.

Added one more book.

But I think instead of keeping this post here and always bumping this message back to the top for people to see, I will put all the entries in the blog and continue it there.
