Default What Do You Do With Your Clad?

After reading the post about the most unusual "surface finds" and the post where someone cashed in his clad to finance a great TH tattoo, I thought it would be cool to see what folks do with all the clad they dig up...spend it as everyday cash, reward themselves with a special treat, invest in more TH tools, etc.

My wife and I have always saved our pocket change at the end of everyday for the entire year, then convert it to "folding green" for extra cash for our anniversary trip each year. It usually amounts to 300 - 400 dollars. This year, I've been adding all my MD clad to the fund as well...it's not been a lot (yet!) but it's neat to know that it helped provide something special...

I've been keeping all my clad and any other finds in a glass beer mug! It's actually full to the top and I'm thinking of graduating to a large tin or something similar to put everything in. It's fun to see the MD finds collection grow. Personally, I don't think I'll be cashing anything in yet... I want to see how much I can collect!

When I first started finding clad I saved it all. Then I tried to figure out how to clean it so I could change it for something else. What I started doing yesterday is using it for the vending machines at my work. This way I don't have to clean it and it seems like It is paying for my snacks and drinks.

I've been saving change for a long time. That gets converted at the bank to folding money that I get to use for my own desires. I've been doing the same with the clad I find, but my first go-round jammed the coin machine at the bank. Now I know I have to do some cleaning. So... I've been waiting to get a good vibratory polisher to best clean my clad. With any luck, one will be arriving sometime next week. At this point, I have about $140 worth in an ice cream bucket, so even after paying for polisher, I've got some cash left over.

I keep mine in a jar and haven't cleaned any as I like to show them to the young ones in the family to see what it looks like to find something thats been buried for a long time. they think it's cool and it sparks their interest in the hobby. They have their own Little detectors and whenever we go out I spend all my time diggin for them and if it's junk thats OK but when they hit a coin even if it's Clad the look in their eye's and the excitement they get is Priceless.

When I was detecting years ago, I had 3 or 4 small plastic butter dishes, empty of course. I cleaned my clad and distributed an equal amount into each dish after each hunting trip.

One dish was for Batteries for the detector. Another for cigarettes , yes I smoked, but have since quit . Another dish was for detector items, ie. coil cover, hipmount kit, (my 6000D weighed more than a boat anchor) , digging tools etc...

Most of my rings and silver coin finds were cashed in at a local coin shop, and the money was spent on new detectors.

Now that I'm back into detecting, I will probably start a new dish collection. Now they will be for Batteries, Gasoline ,, and Miscellaneous.

Right now it's just being saved in a coffee can.

I've always dropped my change in a jar at the end of the day. That change is usually lunch money for the kid or whatever but it does add up.

Right now my clad is going into a coffee can and at the end of September I'm cashing it in, adding the money I've earned from the sales of my designs, and donating it to the 60 mile walk for breast cancer that my daughter and I are taking in October. After October, I guess I'll start saving up for next year's walk (if this one doesn't kill me LOL).

.....but a Lamborghini sounds awfully tempting....
