Most of you know I work at a residential facility for elderly with alzeimers.
Well some cases are real sad. Today I learned alot from one man. Mr Otis has been with us for a month. Now he never really says much, Thank you after meals etc... Tonight I took five residents out for supper and to a patriotic concert in Hopelands Gardens. Mr Otis was very quiet as usual during supper I talked their ears off about going to the beach, Metal detecting, and Gordons recovery. We got to the concert and after a few songs I noticed Mr. Otis was singing along to the songs. I went to him and asked if he was having a good time. He told me that he was having a great time and he asked me one question. He said you really care don't you. of course I do. He cryed during the salute to soldiers and I cried with him. We held hands and sang along to the National Anthem. On the way home he shared stories about his days in the Army. When we got back to the facility the other workers noticed the change in him.
I realized that some people feel all alone in this world and a gentle hello or the touch of your hand goes along way.
I know this has nothing to do with Metal detecting but I had to share this with you.
I found a treasure at work. I found Mr Otis
