Default Coil covers;

I am very new to detecting-Question: why do more people not use the coil covers, especially when detecting in uneven -rocky- land?( I have seen several detecting videos and no one had a coil cover on.)-Given a coil cover cost about 15 USD and a coil cost 75/100 USD----Does the coil cover limit the effectiveness of the coil while detecting?----

The answer is simple. They were like I was for the first few months...STUPID!!!! The cover doesn't have any effect on the depth. It simply protects your investment from becoming chipped or otherwise damaged by rocks, etc.

I didn't buy one for a long time just because I didn't know how important it really was. I have scratches all over my stock coil and thank goodness I didn't damage it. I find that I do a lot of "scrubbing" with my coil because the places I hunt have higher grass. I have to really get in there to find the signals. I'll never be without a coil cover again.

Default Thank you;

ok--Pris--thanks for that info----I can understand not using a coil cover at the beach-where the sand is fine and fairly level-but in the woods/plowed land, homesteads, it makes sense to me to use a coil cover if the effectiveness is not lowered.--

I wouldn't be without it at all. In fact, it seems to me that the sand would wear it down even more. Think sand paper.

Won't buy a coil without the cover.
