Question Viper Trident

I am looking for a cheap water detector for fresh water lakes and rivers. Anyone have any experience with these units? Looking for the cheapest functional waterproof detector I can find

I've never heard anything good about them. Kellyco is selling their broken returns of these on eBay!

I have Not Heard or Read anything good on them. I would suggest that you see if any of the sponsors have a pre owned detector for sale, one that you won't be throwing your money away on. I have a Whites Surfmaster PI that I picked up pre owned in great shape for $340.00. Works great & I love it. Check around and you'll find a good one at a good price, just stay with a more Repuatable Manuf. What is your price range ?

Price range under 300, used or remaunfactured okay. Doesn't have to be fancy. If I cant find something decent I will waterproof my 2200 in a lexan box. But really a freshwater waterproof detector on the cheap is not rocket science.

Default What I found on the Viper...

This is a link to a review on Lost Treasure Magazine's Website:
Lost Treasure Online- Field Test

this sentence from the last paragraph is somewhat telling:

"The Viper was not intended to replace or even compete with the high-end underwater metal detectors on the market, but for those that may not be sure water hunting is for them, or only get to a beach occasionally on vacation, this might just be what you’ve been looking for. "

This is from another board:

"I would have less problem with them (Chinese made metal detectors)if the real retail prices were being shopped and not the overinflated ones. Viper trident for example ; any dealer can buy them in bulk for around 68.00. Yep 68.00 wholesale. Do you think it's right to put a retail on them of 699.95 ? i don't because this makes the consuler think the "value" really is 699.95 when it isn't. If the real retail was advertised such as around 299.95 and then they were discounted 20% I wouldn't even bat an eye. But this isn't so."

So buyer beware, get what you pay for or good enough for now...

I myself wish I had mad a different chice on my land detectect instead of being driven soley by price and a couple of weeks of research.

Hope this helps.
