Question Cleaning my wheat pennies

I have an idea and I guess I just want confermation for my own piece of mind. I am looking to clean off my wheat pennies for the year and all of them seem to hold onto dirt/tarnish even after soap and water. I do not want to damage them at all. Is soaking in olive oil then soap and water again the best way to go. Just looking for some confirmation.
Thanks! Inspector

The olive oil will help preserve the pennies. No need to wash after soaking in oil.

Give WD-40 a try. It cleans em up nicely.

I also heard that ketchup works, and also lemon juice, kinda like BigBill's apple cider vinegar, low acidity, I haven't tried either one though.

Anyone heard of this ? When I was at my Sisters this past weekend we were at a supermarket and I happen to be looking at metal cleaners to see if it said anything about coins, She asked what I was doing and when I told her She said that if you take Alluminum Foil and put it in a container with water & baking soda it's suppose to work really well. Forgot about it till I read this post so I'm gonna try it tonight and see what happens. Did not say how long it;s suppose to take but Wii give it a spin& post the results unless anyone has tried this and it doesn't work.

Sounds almost like a non-electric electrolosis, Tinman. More of a chemical reaction, huh? Let us know how it turns out!

I have heard of this method. I have a detecting book that mentions this method I'm pretty sure. I'll have to find the book again.

I'm trying the WD-40.
