Default Bad impression

I don't know if anyone else here saw the sitcom episode of Life with Jim(or something like that)when his friend is detecting in Jim's yard and discover's the wedding band that Jim had lost a year earlier. It portrayed a metal detectorist(Jim's friend) leaving holes dug all over the yard like exploded mines. Watching this left a bad taste in my mouth and although it was just tv I can't help but wonder what kind of impression this has left with those who aren't hobbyists or are potential permission givers. I know if I saw that episode and someone asked me if they could search my yard I would say NO. I am sure that the majority of us follow the code of ethics and fill our holes and do as little damage to lawns as possible. I hope the networks leave our hobby out of thier shows from now on as they are giving the general public a bad impression of our hobby.

I am afraid that there are some folks that buy into that view of us. I guess it is our job to change that but I agree it doesn't help when the media portrays us in that light. I am glad I didn't see that one.

Leave it to the media to be so careless. Just another Good Reason for all MDrs to adhere to the Code & why These Forums & Clubs are so Important. Something like that sets alot of good work back bigtime cuz it
reaches so many people. Never watched that show and now I wouldn't even if they payed me to.

Yeah, I find it hard enough putting up with the grief I get from my friends about the hobby not being "cool" - I don't need the media making it any harder on us getting permission and making us look bad!
