Default Professional Detector Users?

Does anyone know how many (if any) professional detector users there are in the U.S.?

Regards,

Colin

Hello mate,
Welcome to the best darn Metal Detecting Forum anywhere. I am not sure what makes somebody a professional in our Hobby. Most of us here follow a set of guidelines when we detect that ensures that we act like professionals when we hunt. And there are some of us that spend a lot of time hunting with a detector and find considerable treasures at times but I do not know anyone yet that detects as a business or full time job. It is a very interesting question and thanks for posting it. Maybe others here can give an answer...

Welcome Colin...I met a couple of folks who hire out their services to insurance companies to search for lost jewelry items...they are paid a negotiated percentage of the insured value of the recovered item...not sure if they're paid anything if unsuccessful....even so - this isn't a full-time occupation for these folks...

Default pro detectorists

Does that include companies that locate utilities (pipes cables) and Power companies? In Denver I met a gentleman that could find and depth a pipe with dowsing rods better than a $3000 machine. Here in Arizona APS & SRP have people trained with detectors and a detector that can locate a fault by the current being passed into the soil. Sure a lot more than you'd think.
