Default A poem about a tragedy 9/11

My son Thomas was 12 years old. After 9/11 he had to right a poem about how he felt. He was in his room for about 30 minutes and wrote this poem.

How could this have happened, This tragedy was bad.
Thousands of people lost their lives and made our country sad.
A terrorist scored and left his mark, They took away our trust.
Now our defense is on his tail to find him is a must.

A little girl on TV She can not find her Dad.
I wonder if Osama saw this would it make him sad?
Firemen came so did police . these people they must save.
I was scared. I would have run. How can they be so brave.

Afghanistan is their home, Ours is USA.
We are so much bigger, Why won't they stay away?
The Bombs will burst. people will die. When will all this end.
What will be solved? How will we heal? Will our Country mend.

I think of things said and done, I watch the news at night.
Our soldier are heading over there to end this terrible fight.
I wish I could help maybe offer a helping hand.
Our vountry is united together we will stand.

We must have faith in our governments views.
To keep updated we must watch the news.
We may only be kids, But we are affected too.
So have trust in Old glory the red, white and Blue.

This poem earned him an A+ Was sent to the state house in Massachusetts and eventually made it way to President Clinton.
Tommy is now 18 and Is serving our country in Iraq. He will come home in Oct after serving 15 Months in Iraq. I am one proud Mom.

What a great insight for someone his age at the time. I think that speaks a great deal for how he was raised...you have every right to be proud!

Written by a 12 year old with the wisdom of a sage. They weren't just words to him, they were his mission statement. Thank you to your son and thank you the upbringing he received.

All I can say is Wow.

At that time, I was not be able to fathom that the babies that saw what happened that day would be the men and women serving today. I'm so happy for you that you're getting your son back. Thank you for your family's sacrifice. I know it must have been hard to let your son go over there.
