Default Ups and Downs

Well Im new here but anyway sitll wanna share a small story.
As some of you know from my questions I am looking to buy my first detector.
My dad use to do this as a hobby and had several different White models, which ones? I cant recall.
I was talking to my Mom this morning and telling her that I have become iterested in this hobby as my Dad was and she informed she gave an uncle the last detector my Dad had bought. So I called him and sure enough he had it and told me to come get it,that he never used it.
Its a Whites Coinmaster 6 d/b. Well I have searched the forum but have found nothing on it (well, I did find a link to the manual) but Im sure its old enough no one has anything to post on it. It sure has a lot of knobs on it and needs like 14 "aa" batteries, like wow, you could get electrocuted with that much power,jk. But,alas I am missing one of the batter holders, suppose to be a black and white one, Im missing the white.
But, on the bright side, at least I have his last detector back and will keep it and maybe someday find the other battery pack.
John

I have seen people still using that machine and I know someone on here does so we'll get some info yet.

That's nice that you will be continuing your dad's hobby, hope you can find what you need and continue it with his detector, that would be cool.

You may want to give Whites a call, if they don't have what you need, they may be able to give you a lead to someone who does....Good Luck

Congrats on getting your Dad's old detector. The 6/db is an excellent unit. Radio Shack or some other electronic store is where you can get a 8 cell or 6 cell battery holder. You can also check the White's Web site for a local dealer and order one. These are still available. Maybe check Ebay. 6 & 8 cell rechargable battery packs are available also. I THINK KellyCo may have some, could call and see.

As I said, the 6/db's are great units and alkaline batteries last a long time in them.

If you cannot find a battery pack, let me know, I'LL get one for you at my local Radio Shack.

It's nice having your Dad's old machine...if for nothing else than a sort of heirloom...I'll bet you can find the battery holder and USE the machine, though...good luck and HH!

Thanks for the responses and I will check Radio Shack out. Yeah, it really excited me when I found out that detector was still around. I can remember going out hunting with him,he had another Whites he let me use. We would hit real old school yards, I only wish I had become more interested in it but at the time I was still and advid hunter.
It was really cool, I got an old pouch he used also, had two sets of headphones, one that enclosed your ears completely and another walkman style of phone. Also a very old Bowie style of knive that belonged to my greatgrandfather. Dad was using that to dig up the coins.
Its so great to run across this site, you guys are all so very nice.

I really love this story. It touches my heart that you're able to use the tools that he obviously loved. Make them sing again!!!

Hey John,

I'm sure everytime you put that knife in the ground, you'll feel your father's presence . Maybe some day, you'll have a son (if you don't already) and he'll be using that very knife!

Many memebers here can prove that older machines are often as good as the most modern. It will mainly depend on how well you get "in tune" with the machine. I think you will not have much of a problem. Keep us posted on your progress and, if you get bogged down, post a note and let's see what we can do to help you.

Good luck!
