Default Trying to locate owner of lost wedding band

Found my first gold ring in a volleyball court (found others in tot lots), and it is inscribed with the husband's and wife's name, along with the wedding date. I called the park district and they said call the police department. Called them up and my neighbor across the street was on dispatch. She said they could look to see if anyone reported a lost (or stolen) ring that matches, otherwise I just bring it in and they hold it for 30 days in which it is mine again. Tried calling the two parishes in town and they have no record of a marriage for the couple on the date. Assuming there is no info for it at the police station, I'm out of ideas on locating the owners. I guess I can see if there are free 'found' ads in the local papers. Not spending $$ trying to locate someone who never reported a lost valuable

I would not spend any money to return it. You have made the effort and that is good on ya.

Is it just initials or does it have the full name? If you have a name to go on, maybe try looking on Google for marriage announcements or phone number? That's a hard one.

Assuming that the folks who lost the ring are from your state...many states have a marriage records database that you can access free of charge...might give this a shot...

I'm not sure if my pictures showed up on my original post (guessed on the URL's). Not allowed to view photobuket.com at work since "personal and network backup is prohibited" so I can't check it out. Big bro, what can yah do LOL.

Long story short, no full name. Just the first name of groom and bride, along with the wedding date. First thing I did is try to find an on-line wedding database for Cook County, then for Illinois. No go ;0( Gosh darn it, my first chance to return a lost ring and I don't want to blow it. Another problem of course, is not knowing how long ago it was lost. Could have been a week, could have been a year. At the end, I will turn it over to the police to hold for 30 days just to make it official.

Hm. That's not too much to go on, huh? I guess if the wedding date is not too long ago, EPC Guy's suggestion might be of help. You could look at the date and try to find a name match. Too bad the ring isn't really large so they could have put more info, like last name, ss#, city and state, their address and phone #, etc., etc., etc...

It is a nice find. If there isn't anyone going to step up to the plate and claim it. I guess it goes back to you. would make a nice pendant after being melted.

If it were me,half the fun would be finding the owner! Just as much a challenge as finding the ring ..Check with the county courthouse. If all else fails its yours.
