Default Ten Cent Pennies

I was hunting in a park today, and got two separate solid hits that were identified as pennies on the Prizm III. I passed the coil over the areas several times for each and each time the indicator stopped clean on the penny icon and each time a solid tone.

When I dug them up - expecting pennies - I found 2 dimes. My question is this: Is the mis-signal a result of a high level of copper in the alloy of the coin that results in the machine reading it as a penny? Usually, the indicator screen is right on the money (pun intended!)

This is the first time I've noticed this....got rained out 10 minutes after I arrived - so I'll go back tomorrow and see what happens...

Copper pennies & clad dimes cross on my machine sometimes too. Never zinc ones though.

Yes, It has happened to me on the Prizm V. Great finds though and hope you get back there soon.

Yep, with my Ace 250, too. I always just think it's because of varied depth or how long they've been in the ground. My poor machine just gets confused. I've always heard, too, that it's not 100% correct at determining what is really buried. Depth, too...
