Default Never 'hunted out';

Here's something to think about in reference to "hunted out." At peak depth the standard concentric coil is covering an area about the size of a quarter so no matter how it looks up top with that big coil moving over the ground you are missing a lot of real estate down below. Using coins or coin-sized objects as an example, most of these will fit into a one inch square. Say you are hunting a plot 10'x 10'. This plot will contain 14,400 square inches or 14,400 potential targets. So it's easy to see why no place is ever hunted out unless you dig up every square inch of soil to a given depth and sift it. ----------

Excellent post !!!!

Agree with everyone else that it is very insightful and exactly the reason to actually learn various detectors and coil combinations and be willing to dig and dig and dig. Never assume and always realize that any response no matter how vague could be a once in a lifetime find.

Last year i decided to dig an area around a large tree that was inundated with junk but the park was very old and worked a small area without moving my feet for 30+minutes and dug everything that registered.I dug pulltab after pulltab and bottlecaps and lots of decomposing iron and eventually found a Wheat penny.NO detector in my opinion would have indicated that penny being there by a casual pass of the coil. Thanks for the post. HH Bill
