Default to dig or not to dig

Hey,
Just wondering what everyoned does as far as digging signals. Do you dig every signal, or just the ones that give a clear tone, or something in between? I'm thinking if you dug every signal, of course you would dig up tons of crap but you wouldn't miss anything, or maybe it's better to miss some things and be able to cover more area. What do you think?

Today I found an old button with a symbol on it that looks like a baseball cap with a whip behind it. Any ideas what that might be?

later,
t

Using a quote from our friend Anne. When in doubt dig it out. Until you are truly sure what your machine is telling you dig everything. Happy hunting

When I first start my MDing hunt, I start out digging almost every signal....the signals that don't give a solid tone , while scanning in both directions, I don't dig. I often worry about missing something too. After about 30 mins. of digging alot of crap I get real choosy with what I want to dig. Its all up to you, on which tones you think are worth digging or not.

I dig good solid tones that scan good in both directions (90 degree apart, the X pattern). Learn what the machine is trying to tell you. Once you understand what the machine is telling you will dig a lot less junk because you will be able to sort out the good from the bad. This only comes with practice, practice and more practice. Good luck.

If there is not a lot of junk in the ground I dig everything. If there is I am a bit more selective.

Somedays I dig it all but if I feel burned out or am in a hurry I dig only the clear.

If I'm digging in sandy beach areas, I pretty much dig everything - as a tone that seems to be saying "pull tab" can just as likely be a gold ring. As was already mentioned - practice, practice, practice - is the key. Best of luck to you and many happy hunts!

When I first started out, I dug everything. It helped me learn about my machine and the tones a lot of stuff gave off. I go with my gut and once in a while it pays off.

You must learn to LISTEN to your machine........and if you are ever unsure what it is telling you....DIG IT
