Default Disappointments

Well Im still interested in the Vanquero but have started looking at the Whites M6, dont know yet. I want to mainly hunt coins/jewelry but do have some old homesites to visit.
Although this started of as something that should have been posted in the questions forums ,it actually led to a more general thought as I have been researching very much. It seems the more you learn the more questions that pop in your mind
But for the main idea of this post.
I cant find anyone locally that will talk. I have emailed a club in a nearby city but couldnt get a volunteer to talk to me. Was refered to a detector dealer in another state.
I found a hobby dealer in my area that sales Whites but he really couldnt answer my questions. He to was going to refer me to someone. He asked that I call back to give him time to talk with this (experienced hunter). That was 3 days ago. I did talk with an older man in my area that use to hunt quite a bit (he is 95 years old,and cant do it any longer) and he told me many around here are closed mouth and want discuss anything with you.
Any of you guys run across this sort of thing??
Good hunts,
John

Do not let them get you down. I am not a local either. It seems hard at times but I am sure you can find the detector you want.

Heck give one of our sponsors a call, or e-mail. Run past them what you want to do. They will be more than happy to help, Beale.

YEP !

I feel for ya John. Been down that road too when I started detecting.

To quote the old saying... " It Goes With The Territory " . And that simply means, in this hobby, some detectorists are Tight Lipped about giving free advice or information, especially about sites to hunt. Many spend weeks, months or years searching out new places to hunt and they will not even remotely mention anything about them. They act like a Million Dollars is under their tongue, and they aren't gonna flap'em.

New " virgin " sites are getting rare nowdays, and if somebody locates one, talking about it is not gonna happen. Thats why Research is getting to be a Priority anymore. Schools, Parks, Fairgrounds, etc... are common knowledge and have been hit hard over the years. New sites need to be re-discovered and research is the key.

I hate doing research, but since the computer area is here, its much easier than spending time in a library,,, which I did for many hours . Talking with older folks proved to be the best option for me, and in your case, I'd go back and have a nice chat with that 95 yr. old man....and I'd join that Club you mentioned. Once your a member, things will change because your " One Of Them ".

One thing I can say is comming to this Forum or others on the net is a great place to get info. We all have our guts full of info or advice, and we'd be more than happy to puke it up for ya...., just like I did...BURP !

Default tesoro "V"

After having my old detector for 12 years i upgraded to the "V".....in December.
i am now going over the places i hit over the years and am finding probably 3 times more , older and deeper coins than i ever found before.
Most of them silver. also rings etc. i thought i had hunted out everything.
i am using the 5.75 h.o.t coil
You can't go wrong with this machine
if this is any measure of how good it is : i have found more than twice the amount in silver coins , than i paid for the machine since December

Hey Gator, don't get discouraged. I found a lot of the same thing so I spend a lot of time doing research on my own and I have found some great places. Hang in there. As for the metal detector, I have an M6 and I love it. The sponsors here are extremely knowledgeable and will steer you in the right direction. Good luck.

Hey Gator, don't worry about the others not talking, you have some old homesites to detect, get to it. Some people don't want to give anything up, but they may be willing to talk when they see you hunting old homes that they haven't. You can decide then what if anything you want to tell them, they may even offer something.

If you're not originally from the area, it may take some time for people to open up to you, but if you're a straight shooter they'll eventually see that. I used to have a place in the mountains of PA and it was like that up there, they had to get to know you before they'd accept you.

And on your way there and back, driving somewhere or even while detecting, keep an eye out for other promising sites.

Boy, I can relate to the PA situation...I lived there for 12 years and was still the "new guy"...but everyone here at TQ has been more than willing to share advice and experiences...so don't get discouraged!
