Default Ace 250 problem.....

Hi:

I wonder if anyone else has had this happen with the Ace 250.
I laid the Ace down and started to dig for a target. A moment or two later the Ace
started sounding off like some fierce. It just went on and on until I turned it off and
on again. This has happened a couple of times now. AND YES I CHECKED the
batteries. They were put in brand new. The Battery indicator indicated FULL.
Also the coil was nowhere near anything metalic.
Anyone have any ideas before I call Garrett?

Regards
Robert R

I've had mine for a couple weeks now and have never had that problem so I have no idea what it could be - sorry I couldn't help!

Of the five detectors I've had (3 brands) four have done that at some point. The only thing I have noticed is it happens when there is high voltage wires near by (100 yds or closer).

It happened to me a day or so right after I got my new sniper coil. I think I turned down the sensitivity and it's fine, now...

Do you have a pinpointer around that may be causing interference with your machine? I have had this problem with my Ace250 and the Vibraprobe when they are close together. Just a thought.

Default Problems

Also may have been an underground wire of some sort...I would think high tension lines in the area somewhere.

Hi Robert, all of the things that have been listed by the members very well can cause this problem. There are so many sources of electronic interference that it is getting ridiculous! Also if you were near a BPL terminal it is a possibility. You might start looking around you when it comes back to see if there is an obvious source. Ok Robert I hope it isn't a problem and you can continue enjoying the 250. God Bless.

A cell phone going off nearby can cause that too!

Default Ace 250 problem

You know, some else suggested that your detector can actuall pick up teansmissions from CB's from a passing truck. I use head phones and I have never heard a transmission. Is that possible?

I would say it's possible, some truckers use "heaters" on their CB's, which are high power amps to increase their signal, they're illegal, but are used. I know it's a different frequency and that would probably be why you don't hear the talking in your headphones, just get interference?

Does it happen near where semis run?
