I also bought my Xterra 70 from a TQ member, only used a few hours, the owner giving up for health reasons,it was in excellent condition couldn't tell it had ever been used.
I trust TQ members..............but I wouldn't buy 2nd hand from ebay.

A lot of good answers Gator,

And it's the only way many of us can try different detectors and or coil combinations without breaking the bank Sounds like you made a great deal on the M6 since Whites honors the balance of the 2 year warranty after the original sale. When buying used I would rather buy from a reputable sponsor dealer on various forums like TQ and read the feedback on forum classifieds when negotiating a private sale. HH Bill

I'm not sure where you are, but try and locate a metal detector shop in your town.
They generally have used and consignment detectors plus offer a certain percentage off on the floor demo models.

That's how I bought my first detector. A Tesoro and I've always been happy with it.

Post Buying used

Usually if it is backed by a money back guarantee, it is a pretty safe deal.

Default Buying Used............

I agree with IRONCLAD, most dealers do not carry Vintage machines especially if they are more than 10 years old. I have tried to buy vintage detectors from some of the sponsors but most will tell you that there is not enough money in it for them to do so!.............So I go elsewhere........................also I disagree with JCWHITE, one doesn't necessarily buy used because he can't afford a new one! Some like me can afford at least one or 2 of the top lines but prefer the detectors that we grew up with. This is a matter of choice and not a matter of economics!!!!...............just to set the record straight......................I also know that we have a lot of newbies who do not really understand owning anthing but the newest top of the line machines............ years ago I thought like they do now!.............GOOD LUCK............BUT.......................BUYER BEWARE...............have fun..................................Joe

Default Buying used....

I have no problem buying used but I already know the persons reputation.
I have bought from Clevenger's Metal detectors and have had no problem.
The guy gives a 90 day warrenty and also will exchange or refund money if not happy. Usually the sellers on Ebay are ok. They know that if they want to continue to sell they don't want any bad comments posted about them at Ebay. Keep in mind it also depends on the machine your going to buy. If the machine is noted for having problems, chances are YOU are going to have problems. I bought my MXT used and its been great for a three year old machine. But I know how you feel. Its a gamble.

Regards
Robert R

I have no problem buying used. I bought my MXT used (three year old machine) and it works perfectly. I don't know if I'm allowed to say, but Clevengers Detectors probably has the best prices on used machines. Saw his Advertisement in a metal detector magazine. He has no website: Old school. He'll send you a catalog of new, used, and demo detectors if you call him. Man has a good reputation. 1-800-999-9147. He sounds a bit cranky but really thats just how he sounds on the phone. He's an ok guy.

Hey Robert,

I was in his store a few years ago, to tell you the truth, he sounds cranky in there also, but he is a good guy. He talked me out of buying a book about where to find treasure in MO with a good point about if it's published, do you really think there's much left?
