Default any of you guys ever buy used machines?

Like off the classifieds in some of the forums. What should I watch out for if i decide to do this. I have found a machine but dont know if I should contact the seller as I am very leary of doing things like this.
And if this is an improper post I appologize.
Thanks
John

I never have, not that I wouldn't, just haven't. I don't think that this is an improper post, I think it's a great topic for discussion.

You can also consider talking to TQ's sponsors, sometimes they sell used detectors for a good price and can tell you what condition the machine is in, both physically and electronically.

It's better to buy new from a reputable dealer. That way, if something goes wrong with your detector, they can service it, replace or even help you to properly tune it to what you are looking for. Plus you have the receipt of sale and a warranty to boot. I received fantastic service from Kellyco.

I have found a M6 with 22 months left on the warranty and extra small coil for $475.00. Yeah, I kinda agree with what youre saying, well not kinda, agree a great deal. And Im unlucky to boot. Have many river boat casinos around this area and I stay out of em, cept to eat, they have pretty good vittles at some of em.

I have purchased 2 used detectors and 1 new one in the last few months. The new one was from one of the Sponsors here. The other 2 were... Ebay and Treasure Net Member.

My reasons for doing so ??

1) I found a unit I wanted but the cost New was more than I wanted to spend, so I found a used one less expensive.

2) Another unit I bought is a 1983 model,,, long outta production and hard to find. NO Dealers have these anymore, so nothing left to do but find a used one on the classifieds or online Auction.

3) New unit bought from a Forum Sponsor/Dealer. Best way to go for too many reasons to list here. Courtesy for one.

Thats it. Do I feel bad for not buying from a Dealer/Sponsor ??? NO !
Sometimes we have older equipment or need accessories that the Dealers/Sponsors do not carry or cannot get. Your stuck finding other alternatives for your needs. Ya know, Can't call up John , or KellyCo, etc.. and ask for a part for my 1970's Brand X Detector,,, their gonna say HUH ??? . GOOD LUCK !

Like I said, Dealer/Sponsors are the BEST way to go, but sometimes its not always possible.

You do what you can do. If you can't afford a new machine that get an old one that is cheaper.

Hey Gator

I bought my MXT used at a price I am happy with. It had 18 months left on the warranty, (an added bonus). I prefer to put my hands on before, I buy but that's my personal choice. I'll bet the dealers here have some good deals occasionally.

Thanks
Leo

I bought my X TERRA 70 slightly used from a Treasure Net member and
got a great deal. You kinda roll the dice when you buy used, but you can
save alot of money if everything works out. I my case the machine was
virtually new and included a new eliptical DD coil in the deal. I recieved
the MD and it looked like a new one, may have had 5 hours or less on the
machine, packed in all the original plastic bags and boxes. I could not tell
it from new. Look for deals and do your homework and you can save alot
of money. Hope this helps.

I would have no problem whatsoever in buying a used machine - especially from a TQ member...I'd prefer to use the machine for an hour or two before buying it...but that would not always be possible. I guess it's like anything else...do your homework..."test drive" if possible and don't be afraid to negotiate the price down if you feel the machine is priced too high for its condition.
