Default headphones

My wife and I have never not used headphones, since we've started this hobby. Its easier for us to hear the sounds the coil is picking up. I do agree with you about them being difficult to wear when its hot out. We bought a really good pair from Radio Shack that have the foam ear pieces and they are very light weight. They are much better than the ones we got free with our 250.

I value the headphones when detecting with friends because it keeps my detector noise from distracting them.

Default I Never

leave home with out them , hot , yes but you find so much more of the good stuff..... they help you to concentrate on what you are doing. i like to hear that faint whisper of a tone, and know it's 6-10" down and it's gonna be a good find.

I use canal phones with an inline volume control. They are light easy to carry don't draw as much attention from folks, are cooler, and generally block out as much or more noise then cup stiles phones. They are not for everyone due to the fit of the ear but they come with three sizes of plastic to fit 95% of folks. I don't believe the hype of detector only phones, a great pair of headphones with a high sensityivity and low resistance is the only way to fly. Stereo headphones easily reproduce any audio a detector can dish out. My 2 cents.

Default Wireless all the way!

I'm all about the wireless headphones!! Thank goodness for Bluetooth technology! Having said that... we just got the entire line of Detector Pro headphones in, and those things are serious!! I guess it depends on the kinda of headphones you have. And I don't feel right without 'em!

So far I've found one very old license plate, a lot of nails, some funky green pennies and other misc. change.. but who's counting? I'm just here to have fun, giggle, and make friends along the way!

Default Never Used 'Em

but I can see the benefits as far as prolonging battery life. And JC made a good point about not distracting anyone you're hunting with. Maybe if I could find headphones like I use on my MP3 player I'd consider using them, at least when hunting with friends.

I just hate the thought of having headphones on and having someone sneak up on me because I couldn't hear them coming.

I have always used them. Carry a backup set in my car as well on each trip. Going to invest in a very good set by next spring.

I think in most cases, if someone wanted to sneak up on you, you'd have to see them. Unless you're in the woods where twigs can break, it's easy to be quiet on grass, pavement, sand, etc. Just keep your eyes moving.

Ok Rikki......convinced???
