Default Old time Picnic Groves

Hi,
Don't forget about them old time picnic groves, every town had a few.

If you do your research you will find them and some of the early ones can be a treat to detect....coin heaven..

I work in construction/painting so I have a chance to talk to older folks and I always ask , where did you folks picnic in the early days

Most of the older towns here in Texas have a little roadside park with picnic areas close to them.. Paris, Commerce, Mt. Vernon and several others. I am talking about the old type rest areas. I think they are 30's-40's vintage. Didn't think about them till yall mentioned picnicing.

Default Don't forget about older wooded sites.

Some larger public parks have wooded areas not just groves but woods. i search for concentrated areas of rusty debris as they could be old defunct picnic grounds or campsites even yrs ago people were pigs :) If there is a pond or stream even better. It's not a guarantee, but i've found some nice stuff that way.HH Bill

As soon as I can get hold of some of the older locals to talk to, I will be looking for a picnic grove I heard was popyular here around the turn of the century. So far, I can't find its whereabouts as of yet. But when I do I will be MDing it pretty regular. It is supposed to lie along the banks of the Ausable river here in northern Mich. Hopefully, I will be posting some pics of finds that I may be lucky enough to dig up. Problem is, our local library dosen't have much for old info on this area.
