Default Coil size advantages

Hello all.I have a line on an whites xl pro.It comes with the standard 9.5 coil and a 5.3 coil.I was wondering the advantages these coils have over each other? I,ve heard the bigger coil goes deeper, and the smaller coil is better when its trashy.I,d like to know more details..Thanks

The bigger coil will naturally cover a bigger area and does seem to have better depth.

I am not sure since it depends on a lot of things like the make of detector, ground mineralization, etc. The coil size is usually dependant on what you are using it for. Examples would be that for searching in trashy area a smaller one would be helpful but if I am doing a large field I want a bigger one. I need to stop talking now cause the girls are eying this thread.

Default Hey Digger

I think it can vary depending on what detector your using with what coil, Coils made by the Manuf. as compared to Aftermarket coils for the same detector and as JC said alot of other things can come into play. Mineralazation, Manual GB or AUto GB, How well one knows their detector and such. One of the Sponsors may have a more specific answer or one of the techs from the manuf. of the detector one is using may be able to give it in numbers. Excellent Question tho.

Does size matter? Hm...sniper or small coil seems better with not such a noticable loss of depth. A question for the ages. Y'all men are more obsessed about it than we are, though.

Does size matter, not really ..........oh your coil, yes in a heavily mineralised area you are better of going small.

Small is good in a trashy area. That is true, but I like to swing the big one for more searching area. I agree with everyone on this. ,,,Buster....

Must not reply with what my " dirty old man brain" is thinking.

To be honest I have not tried a small coil though. I do plan on getting one for Christmas to use. I have hunted in some trashy areas that would be well suited for the small coil, Beale.
