Smile I was a meanie today

After work I decided to hit a few dug up sidewalk corners that the city is changing over to wheelchair accessible walks. As soon as I get started I see a kid looking over my shoulder. Not too bad as he is staying out of my way. The a friend joins him, and then two others. Now I have 4 kids pestering me to no end. Did you find anything. "no" Did you find anything. "no" Did you find anything. "no" Did you find anything. "no" Did you find anything. "no" Over and over and over . Argh! Then they were sticking coins under my coil when I was trying to dig up a signal so my MD would beep. Was only finding junk when one of them wanted to play a game on me and snuck a quarter under some gravel. I found it and nabbed it before he could get to it. Asked if he could have it so I asked the group "what state quarter has horses on the back". They all get one guess and if anyone is correct they get the quarter. Yah think the kid who tried to play the trick on me would know, but nope. Either did the 3 others (they guessed Hawaii, California, Texas and I forget the 4th one). I kept the quarter and told him it isn't nice to try and trick people. He said yeah and then they all started up with the did you find anything, did you find anything. did you find anything. This went on for 30 minutes, where I found a whopping 2 cents and another quarter (not planted, stuck under some mud). I did pick up some garbage and explained you should always leave a place cleaner than you found it. One kid picked up some trash and I was going to give him the quarter but he quickly took off with his friend as they all got bored LOL With them gone and found another whopping 2 cents. Really slow, but now much of an area to search.

After my searching I talked to a bud who lived down the street I was detecting at. He told me a story of a neighbor putting in a lawn and finding a Morgan Dollar. Of course! Like I'll ever have that happen when detecing a lawn. I'm glad if I find one silver dime(which I found none on his property going back into the early 1900's)

Sounds as irritating as a skeeter buzzin aroud your ear. Cool ya turned it around on them with the quarter. That Morgan is out there somewhere just waiting for ya.

Good Luck & HH

Sounds like a tough hunt for sure! I hope that the next trip will produce less interuptions, and more finds, Beale.

Having a bunch follow you around is kinda bad, but you were not alone hunting and you still found some coins. Be glad you didn't hear " Are we there yet or I need to stop for the restroom ". These kids might be the new generation of detectors someday. That would be cool. Then you could follow them around and ask them questions. I have had a few follow me when I hunt, but never a whole pack like this, just a few. You handled it well........... Buster

You handled it well! Can be fun sometimes when you have kids interested with RESPECT...and very enjoyable when you see their eyes light up with excitement on what you find...(and I love giving them clad)but I have had an experiance where I was bombarded (here we go with my spelling again)...not sure about spelling here...lol...but back at what I was saying...bombarded with kids...6 or 7 or 8 of them...oh between the ages of 6 to 10 or 11 or so...trying to take my shovel and my detector and my finds...geeeeezzzzz....someone get these kids a detector

I usually run into the same situation when I beach hunt at a nearby lake. Although, most of the time, they are a bit more respectful...no one has planted any coins for me to find! Very funny (and taught them a lesson) on the quarter!

I was detecting at my brothers house and his son's 2 boys and the neighbors 3 came watch. Ages 2 years to 8 years old. It did not take long and all five were on there hands and knees with there heads 6 inches from the hole looking for the target and making enough noise to scare a grizzly bear away. LOL. If I would have dug a 6 foot hole they all would have fell in. We found nothing but that did not seem to bother them..

Bleh! KIDS! I had one stomp on my coil once and her dad was just walkin' around the park not payin' a bit of attention to who she was talkin' to or what she was doin'. Her brother was trying to take some of the stuff I found, too. Parents these days should be required to go to parenting class.
