Good one. How about undocumented archeologists that don't dig up the dead? Sorry I had a talk with a so called archeologist the other day. We did not seem to see eye to eye.

You know I have never really thought about this. It is a very good question and I do not have a good answer.

I hunt history in the dirt, but that is wordy. For now I will go with detectorist, Beale.

Pris You hit the mark right square on the head!

...how true Kent.

I've locked horns with a couple of them over finding Indian Arrowheads and such. They, ( archeologists ) act like everything still in the ground belongs to them, and we are supposed to ( only ) locate and tell them about it..... Yeah Right !

lol, loved your response Pris.
I was just reading on another forum and this very thing came up.
A very informed person ( dont know if its appropitate to mentin his name,so I want) talked about this. This guy apparently been mding for many, many years and he seems very informed in all the aspects of detectors and make of detectors.
He stated, a person like him for example, that study the mechanics and operations, even history (evolution of detectors) are "detectorist". Folks that buy a machine and go hunting, only learning to operate said machine or machines if they own more than one, are "hobbiest".
My wife calls me an old man, geesh,Ive gotta find somethin good.
Some of my old huntin and fishing buddies think Ive lost it,Ive gotta find somethin good.
I dont know what I wanna be called, just not an old man.
Im a detector enthusiast,a noob,a hunter.
Im also not to good with, coming up,with something original,no imagination I guess. I hope some of you come up with something catchy. But Im like some others, I dont like detectorist or old man.
Coin shooter and relic hunters sounds good but thats sort of sub groups.
I like Treasure Hunter , after all thats what it is to us,enthusiast, hobbiest, and noobs like me.
Just Dont Call Me an Old Man!
