I am just an old Dirt Fisherman but will admit to technically being a Detectorist. JC

When someone ask's me, I say I metal detect. I don't have a label for that. I just metal detect. But I like the term "digger".

You guys rock. I agree that "detectorist" is the way to go - usually... but sometimes I wanna spice it up and make things more interesting! All of these are great ideas, (I really like Metal Detective, Bill) and like I said earlier,... don't be surprised if a couple of these turn up in some text on Kellyco!

Personally I don't care what people call me as long as it's not a nerd, call me a gold digger (altho I've yet to find any), my friend still calls me Inspector Gadget

I do like the term archaeologist. I've always thought independent archaeologist was fitting.
Although we are metal detectorists and that's the fitting term. independent archaeologist really does fit also.
Maybe coining a term like that would be helpful when getting permission to normally less accessable sites. Sounds more professional and impressive to people who don't understand us.

I've already been rejected 4 times at the San Jacinto monument as soon as they hear metal detectorist.
