Okay,
So several of you know that I'm a writer/editor for Kellyco. We have a virtual library of information on every product we carry, and I'm in the process of re-organizing that content, making it grammatically correct and easier to digest. But I've run into a problem. See, a machine which detects metal is called a "metal detector" - but what about the people that hold the machine? Are we "metal detectorists?" The word "detectorist" is not popular, and doesn't always sound proper. We are certainly not "metal detectors" - because that can get awfully confusing (and I don't know about you guys but I don't beep!) Meanwhile, the phrase "Treasure Hunter" isn't always applicable, and often conjures the image of pirates and such. I know that while we're out hunting, the action is "metal detecting" so do you consider yourself a "metal detecting hobbyist" or "guru" or "enthusiast?" What do you call yourself? More importantly, what do you prefer to be called? If this were your profession, what would your title be? If you've nothing better to do, toss some idea's my way. I'm just curious and thought I'd pick some brains for fresh thoughts! - Ali

Yo! I believe you had it right the first time. The clinical term is Metal Detectorist. I am a Detectorist, but I'm also a pirate and treasure hunter and weirdo carrying a bunch of stuff on a belt and swinging around a stick that everyone stares at. That's a bit long to say, so I'll stick with Detectorist.

If I were a Professional, I would consider myself...
"CONNOISEUR OF LOST COIN & JEWELRY EXTRAORDINARE'' ![]() ...but until then, you can just call me a Detectorist. ![]()

Pretty much Metal Detectorist but I do like the others. If I was Professional I think I'd call myself a " Terra Cultivater of Precious Antiquitie s" !
