Default Future of metal detector makers

Hi Everyone, I am noticing from time to time on other forums that some will post that they think the American metal detector makers are behind or the bottom is getting ready to fallout on them. Some keep wanting more depth and that is fine, I wouldn't mind seeing a detector come out with a consistent accuracy at 12" or so myself. But sometimes people can become so negative about something they seem to enjoy as a hobby that it begins to spread to others and before you know it they are dropping out of the hobby. Metal detecting is and will be what you make it to be, me I am very happy with the instruments I use. I can't imagine trying to dig a 2 or 3 feet hole in a park. But if enough people in this hobby become negative about it then it will begin to have a detrimental effect on the makers sales and create bad times for us all. Of course we want to keep going forward with Research and Development to do better but let's be thankful also for what we do have. So what I am trying to say is just enjoy the hobby and support it. All of the companies have a good lineup, even Bounty Hunters will work and make finds just like the other brands, but some models are a little better than others.

I just wanted to mention this and I hope everyone can make metal detecting fun and rewarding as a hobby. Me, I just have fun finding stuff in the dirt and love the mixing of technology and history. If you are at times lost or frustrated seek out the experience of those that are old hands at this and they will help you. Ok I want to wish everyone happy hunting and be positive and God Bless you all.

Very good post John. I have seen some posts talking about this subject myself. Heck I enjoy this hobby so much, just getting out is fun.

Thanks for the reminder to enjoy ourselves, Beale.

Great post John. I am happy with depths I can hit and furthermore I will support U.S. manufacturing. I really don't think digging a 2 foot hole in a park is really going to fly. But, I really think the majority of the people in this hobby are quite happy with the current depth these machines do. Do we really want to dig 3 feet for a wheat penny????

Good post. I think accuracy to 12" on a consistant basis, in all types of ground would be great, My DFX gets pretty close IF there is no ground mineral, and the soil is damp.

I would like to see affordable ground penetrating radar/sonar,

Yes Skifisher I think we are going to have to go into a radically new concept of metal detection theory to see a measureable difference for increasing our finds. We do have GPR but it comes a tremendous price! Of course if your a bigtime treasure hunter like W.C. Jameson said this technology is not that useful to them. Research is the professional treasure hunters best friend. But the race is on to come up with a discriminating PI machine at this point. Thanks everyone for your great comments and take care.

Default maybe a lil technical

by gettin a bigger coil you can go deeper. but you also lose much sensitivity at shorter depths to smaller targets. i was looking at a 15 incg coil whites still manufactures for my 6000Di ser3... i know it will give me a great increase ar depth. but most of my wheats and silver come from depths of 8" or less. the oldest wheaty i found this year a 36' was at 6 measured inches. not by the machine but by my ruler. and your right about a 2 ft hole.... i see alot of parks stopping MDn when the holes get that deep. 12 deep means 18 inches surface diameter.... a big hole and lots of dirt for a trowel.

but i see the american companies producig a much more acurate macvhine.look at the leaps and bounds made in the past 15 years of our hobby. that said i still love old school machines.

happ huntin all

GREAT POST John ! I'm just happy to get out to play and I think the current detectors are Fine. Folks forget that it's not always the detectors alone but what kind of ground they are hunting in and do they know there machine as well as they think they do and is it ground balanced right and so on & so forth. IT"S A HOBBY for most of us and If some one is that serious and wants unreal depth then it's there in Manuf. like OKM, as Long as You have the Money for the right Equipment you can go as deep as ya want. I think the US manuf. are doing fine and those that whine are the ones that buy a detector and before they even have used it long enough to get it to work at it's best, they turn around and sell it complaining about this or that. Theres always gonna be some sour Grapes in the Crate.
