Default Carefull of what you dig!!

Backyard treasure hunters beware. A little-known Oregon statute makes it illegal for anyone to intentionally unearth artifacts more than 75 years old without a permit from the state — even on private property.
After local bottle hunter Dale Mlasko was featured in the Mail Tribune and on the Travel Channel show "Cash and Treasures," he received a letter from the state saying he may have run afoul of the law.

This is more and more common every day. The State and Feds moving in and confiscating finds or imposing fines for breaking the law.

Other than coins and jewelry, I try to refrain from posting anything of Historical Value that I may find. If it keeps up, posting anything like this on Forums is going to get very risky. Ya gotta wonder who out there is monitoring these sites and the artifacts that are being recovered.

I have hunted Indian Arrowheads and such for years and have a very nice collection of points and hand tools. I know the Archieologists hate peeps like me for hunting these things. My Father, Brother and I are very tight lipped about who we tell or show our finds too. I don't need any knocks on the door from the " MEN IN BLACK "

...aint it though. What if you lived on or inhereted property that has been in your family for longer than 75 yrs. You go out and dig up artifacts that belogned to your great - great Grandfather. Maybe an old rusted axe head that he used to clear the land to build the family's log cabin.

State finds out you found it and moves in and says ....ITS OURS ! ...there's a little known statute, and you didn't have a permit.

What a bunch of.... #(&^%@!(&

What a bunch of bull, I bet they snuck those laws on the books very quietly.

Why don’t they get off their lazy butts and go find and dig some privies of their own?

This statement really chaps me…

fossilized feces provide indicators about the people who lived there.

Do we really need to study the dodo of our ancestors to know who they were?

Ok, rant off.
