Default Single Beeps

I was wondering about single beeps. I get beeps on the forward pass but not on the backwards pass. EMT?
some times it might take a few more passes in one direction to pick up that beep again.

thanks

Could be a Coin on Edge, Something Small and/or Deep, Ground Mineralization and so on and so forth. I get the same thing as I'm sure others do on different detectors so Dig Em All till you can decide by what your detector is saying to dig or not to dig. Just my humble opinion.

I get those sometimes too, and Always dig them. As Tinman said, could be a coin on edge or something on top or under a coin. Could be an item right on the edge of your disc. setting... detector is confused as to accept or reject it. Dig a few of these signals just to see.
Only takes a minute and then after digging a few, you"ll know what causes this.

I call them Iffy signals,, and I think to myself. If I dig, it could be trash or treasure . And if I don't dig,,, what did I miss .

Thank you, I wasnt sure! somtimes I get a high tone, and when i went back it wouldnt pick it up. Ive notice somtimes when I drop my coil next to the ground it give high tone reguardless. so was guessing it was a false beep kinda thing.

I get that sometimes with the Ace 250. Happened yesterday at a high school where I went MDing. Usually its junk, in fact almost all the time its junk but not always. If I am having a good run and collecting alot, I usually just leave the single beep target and get on with the area I'm MDing. If I'm having a bad day, I go ahead and dig this iffy target, only ocassionally ending up with something to take home. I will pass the coil over the target from different directions to see if I can get a soild signal both ways. Like the otheres here have said, the coin, if it is a coin, could be on edge.

Regards
Robert Roy

Hi ShortGrass, Yes it is either a piece of trash with say a sharp point or just a little bitty chunk of some metal or a good coin on edge as everyone has said. And if your attacking the coin from edge to edge then you will get this single beep only every so often. Lots of variables and in the end it is how much curiosity you have to know what it is and DIG IT! Ok take care and God Bless.

Some observations... I'm assuming by "forward" pass you mean a basic one-way signal, either on the horizontal or vertical passes...

What I can attest to (as I hunt with a BH101 myself) is that as others suggested, it can be an irregular-shaped piece of metal (I hesitate to say "trash"), as it seems round objects seem to elicit a better two-way response than irregularly-shaped objects...

It can also be attributed to the conductivity of the object and it's relationship to your discrimination settings... something that is half-way being disc'ed out will give a signal like that - as where a completely disc'ed out object will give no signal at all... what you should do is, again, as others have stated, keep a mental note of the signal while digging it anyway, to see what it is...

In my experience, a solid, one-way beep has ofttimes been a slug of aluminum chain-link fence wire... it has enough mass to elicit a response, but not enough conductivity to make a clean one...

Determine a level of trash you are willing to accept retrieving, and keep mental notes of what kind of signals give what kind of result, and you'll have better luck making a decision...

But, having said all that, it really does come down to one thing - "Do I dig it, or not?"

After further testing, it can be target at the end of range! that can produce this single beep. it becomming clear I need to start thinking Small and slow; Dig all targets.
I am seeing the need to be displined and stick to grids if possiable. This means making maps and marking covered area's to some degree. even if the area's are smaller than a tennis court. this should do a lot for my focus and my Mental Prowess. Knowing im not back tracking over ground and being productive. seeing this will be slow going by digging all targets. I think I will enjoy the fact " if i had dug maybe's " wont crop into my thinking. so use all metal mode and I shouldnt have many doubts. There is much more about this hobby than it appears to be on the surface.
