Default This is this best tip I can give you cellar hole hunters.

I've done a bit of time in the libraries and searching for old maps and hunting for property using terraserver. I thought I had all bases covered and was doing good. But there was one cellar hole I couldn't find any info on. Its not on any of the 1902 maps that I looked at so it must be older. Well today when I was exploring the old cellar hole I came across two old hunters. Both were obviously retired and enjoying life. I asked them if they'd been hunting around here for a few years and they both laughed and said yes. I asked if they knew anything about this lonely little cellar hole(thinking it was the only one around). He said he didn't know anything about it but he pointed out another cellar hole and pointed me in the right direction to a 3rd cellar hole and says he thinks there's another one close by. He told me it use to be an old settlement and thats why they called it tannery hill. I didn't even know the name of the hill until that moment. He tells me that this used to be an old orchard and I know on the other side of the trail 5 miles away is an orchard as well. I'm not sure if its a part of the same orchard or not but he gave me a good place to start. Talk to them old hunters. They've been hunting those local woodlands for years and know their way around. Ask them where the apples are it could lead you to an orchard. I also asked them about which of the three local lakes was the best for fishing. I was friendly and so were they and it was good conversation. I even got the one guys phone # so I can call him and see if he got any more info from his wife. I guess she's older then he is and knows some people. He was quick to point out other property's as well. What a wealth of knowledge these two guys were. That is probably the best info I can give to anyone. Let me know if it helps u out. Jason

You got that right. No better history book than a person that lived during that time.

i was hunting a celler hole on my road and i hit a metal box that was very thin and rotted. i pulled off part of the top and all these bones were in there. later i found out they were human bones, there were also eyeglasses and a pipe in there.

Didn't the head stone give it away rob? lol J/K did you find out anymore on it or turn it in to the proper authorities? Who would you talk to about finding bones that you know are more then say 50 years old in an unusual spot? I read about one guy who found a body of a hacked up murder victim by the metal tabs on the persons jeans. Freeky stuff, I hope that never happens to me. Jason

there was no headstone lol.this was a celler hole from 1850 i just put all his stuff back and left it alone. it was a great site but i didnt want to disturb it. i only told my parents and one cop that i knew, he said just leave it alone. if it was a recent death im sure they would have gone down there.
