Default What to do with your car when detecting

Hi,
This seems like a subject not much mentioned.
Does any worry about your vehicle when detecting?
I detect alone.

I try to find a safe place, but sometimes there aren't alot of options.
I might drive a ways away from the house and once parked I'm walking a good distance from my car. Sometimes hours.

I definitely do my research about the area and also cruise it first to get a feel for it and see what the area is like.
If I have a bad vibe, I'll move on and find another spot.
Basically I try to use common sense.

Once parked, in case a police car shows or a tow truck( you never know ), I leave my insurance papers in site and a sign saying this vehicle isn't abandoned.

What practice do other detectorists use for their vehicle to keep it safe?
Or as safe as possible.

Default Car safety

I usually don't worry about my truck, I hope there is enough traffic around to discourage anyone. Sometimes in remote areas I worry some if I don't know the area. I guess I take chances. Once I heard shots in the area of my truck and invisioned it shot to pieces. It was probably a hunter on the other side of the hill from my truck. ha ha

My truck is 10 yrs old and I leave nothing in it so I just hope for the best but if I'm going someplace really remote I will have someone drop me off and pick me up at a designated time.

Default leaving notes in a car

Up here in NY, even in Syracuse where I am from, if you leave a note in a car, it says a LOT...

1) The owner ain't too smart

2) The owner has left the vehicle and prolly will not be returning any time soon

3) steal at your leisure

4) I swear folks up here have family feuds in the woods durring Hunting season, so I stay out of em until spring.

It is not a great idea up here. My Dad once put in a simple alarm system and beefed up the speaker system with a big loud speaker under the hood...When that thing went off, you would be deaf if you were within a mile of the vehicle....lol

Family feuds? Sounds familiar. Most of my family is in Moravia. Up in the hills. And yes they feud and steal from each other. Not much shooting that I know of.
But they do alot of sitting at the gossip table. UGH!
But I don't keep up with that living here in Texas.
I always thought it was strange.

And yes, I have had reservations about leaving the note and insurance visible for the exact reasons you mentioned.

I have a ford focus. A good car, but nothing fancy. Maybe an alarm would be a good idea.

Thankyou for the comments.

Doug

I leave my truck within site when I hunt. I can turn around and check on it anytime. At the beach I leave it in the parking lot along with other cars. Hope this helps...Buster.....

Hi Buster,
Same here when I detect at the beach. Try park where I can see it from a distance.

Very good idea.

Most of the time, I'm within sight of the car...I've never given it a lot of thought...maybe because I always use my company car!

When I detect in remote areas Im armed and I leave the remainder of the box of shells on the seat ,, when I detect in rural areas I take my Rottie with me and she watches the car .

when I detect inside the village limits I don't worry about it !
